Network interface name instability

2023-10-01

I noticed that sometimes across reboots the network interface might change name. Usually it is called enp3s0 but I've seen an occurrence where it got assigned the enp4s0 name after I changed a kernel boot parameter (but I'm not sure it's relevant).

As a workaround I can just give the network interface a stable name as described here

 #/etc/systemd/network/10-persistent-net.link
 [Match]
 MACAddress=2c:f0:5d:42:82:13

 [Link]
 Name=lan0
